Steadfast

I will not walk down the path,
the world desires me to walk on.
Instead, the path I travel
may not be easy nor safe,
but it was the path
I was chosen to overcome.

Ambidextrous

My practical side questions the validity of my reasoning,
the sanity of my emotions.  It wants weights and measures,
proof and subsistence.
Yet the lover in me looks for the truth in his eyes,
the desire in his kiss, the passion in his heart,
the pleasure in his smile.
Yet, if we wish to believe in the fortitude of love,
we must love without insecurity.

Ode to the Day

I awoke from madness today
and watched as the sun rose like a blushing maiden
from a cool dip in the translucent sapphire sea.
An angel of light that lifted ever higher
perched on the tip of a cloud until she
gently fell back to earth to her midnight
embrace.  I watched as the cosmos
formed and the stars danced through
eternity like nuptials.  I watched until
shooting stars struck like Cupid's arrows
in my morose heart and I awoke again
for the second time today, simply amazed.

Fragile

I built my dreams around you;
beam by beam.
I thatched a roof over our heads,
and waited out the storms.
I lived for the starlight nights
for you were mine and I was yours.
But the seasons have changed and
summer is gone, I shiver from the cold.
Now, I toil and sweat planting seeds
in the garden and water them well, but  I
fear the coming of the desert sun
will turn the tendrils from green to gold.
